In the Marketplace

In the Marketplace By Greg Iobst, photo by Dan Epstein Adding Personality to Design Plans 13,000 SQUARE FEET OF POSSIBILITIES AT A&R INTERIORS day at the office is like a trip back in time for Adrienne Rich, owner of A&R Interiors/ e Design Center of Denville. In 1980, Adrienne saw an old art deco movie theater with "great bones" and transformed it into a full-service interior design center—expanding her already established firm. Today, A&R is infused with the next generation of Rich creativity: Allyson Rich, Adrienne's daughter, is both her business partner and senior designer. "We offer clients a visual feast—combining traditional, transitional, and contemporary," says Allyson. Over the years, Morris County's largest designer showroom has garnered plenty of rave reviews, and a trip to the design center proves why. From the top of the grand center staircase, customers can't miss the bi-level panoramic view of 14 rooms. ese are arranged in vignettes, articulated with many one-of-a-kind imported pieces—including eye-catching accessories and original art. " e right mix inspires rooms with more depth and personality," notes Allyson. Visitors will notice an eclectic mix of upholstered pieces and case goods by Century Furniture, eodore Alexander, Maintland-Smith, Hickory Chair, and Hooker Furniture. "What's on the floor is just the beginning," she adds. "At least seventy percent of our orders are customized to the client's specifications." A Adrienne and Allyson Rich of A&R Interiors Starting this month, A&R will feature three display kitchens by Wolf Singer Design Studio. In December, an adjacent section is slated to include a suite of designer bathrooms. And the showroom is a one-stop resource for residential and commercial clients, as well as design trade professionals. By providing design trade resources and other services onsite, "A&R is adding value and convenience," says Adrienne. "Independent designers and their clients are increasingly enthusiastic about us as the local alternative to Manhattan." After getting to know her clients, Adrienne specializes in matching one of the nine in-house designers to assist them—no salespersons roam the floor. Independent designers meet with their clients in A&R's newly expanded fabric show- room, with access to CAD for floor plans, space planning, and window treatments. e facility also includes a complete Kravet showroom. "We work with every budget and communicate with our clients from concept to completion," says Allyson, adding that the A&R design team focuses on helping clients allocate their dollars wisely. "Proportion is the key to design," she says. "You'd be surprised how much we end up saving clients just by avoiding the most common pitfalls of do-it-yourselfers."  A&R Interiors / The Design Center of Denville 26 Broadway, Denville • 973.625.8950 ARInterior.com October 2009 SuburbanEssex.com 53
